Research interest: At the beginning of his professional life, his research interest was mainly addressed to Obstetric Anesthesia and Analgesia. From the beginning of the nineties, he was mainly attracted by research on Pain Medicine, especially on inflammatory pain. He has also developed an important interest in the societal impact of pain (SIP), at any level. On this last topic in 2010 he has strongly contributed to creating a European annual event of awareness, initially organized inside of the European Parliament, and involving a few European Deputies.

Dear Colleagues,

Global Clinical Engineering Journal (GCEJ) is a journal dedicated to exploring the different connections between health care and engineering. In particular, it explores the conditions in which clinical engineering and technology can help solve the problems that afflict patients. There are some fields in which technology has a crucial importance. Think, for example, of the impact that endoscopic surgery has had in improving the prognosis of surgical patients of all types. Think of the impact that prosthetic surgery has had on the quality of life of many elderly people; or what clinical engineering has produced in allowing the mobilization of patients affected by motor pathologies, even congenital ones. Undoubtedly, Pain Medicine has successfully benefited from the support given by technology, and by the research produced by clinical engineering. The proposal of a special issue of GCEJ completely dedicated to this topic arises precisely from this simple observation. As we can easily see, countless publications have been dedicated to this topic. Our goal is to collect scientific evidence that highlights how closely connected pain therapy and clinical engineering are. We hope that numerous Colleagues, and many companies dedicated to the care of patients affected by painful syndromes, will accept the invitation and participate in this attempt of scientific evolution, dedicated to the best care of patients in pain.
